“Liquid Shard,” a kinetic sculpture by artist Patrick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics, is on display in Los Angeles’ Pershing Square. It was done in collaboration with students from the AA Visiting School and will be on display until Aug. 11. The city of Los Angeles offered the space through Now Art LA, a nonprofit dedicated to curating art installations throughout L.A. The sculpture is about 15,000 square feet and made of holographic Mylar and monofilament. The inspiration for the piece came from observing nature “and the feeling that we are only aware on a very surface level of what is really going on around us,” said Shearn. “We feel the currents of air on our skin but do not see the larger movements.”
